Last year seemed to fly by, but not in the standard ‘you’re just getting older’ kind of way. Instead I did a ton of things and had a shitload of fun. It basically began with getting married at the end of March. That was the easiest part of the year probably. We didn’t stress anything much or have crazy couple breakdowns due to the wedding process. All of the boxes were checked before the big day, friends appeared and we just had a awesome party. Wedding advice, family will be the biggest stress point, but thankfully they’re also the ones you can lovingly yell at to chill. Right after we adventured back to being a little off the grid in Montana.
Once we returned to daily life things seemed to just keep ramping up all the way through the end of the year. We had more adventures and travels, parties and hangouts, but months appeared to blink past. I think that just goes to show we were having a good time. Yah, a chunk was work, but work we were proud of in some shape or form. Looking back at 2018 I’m more bugged and saddened by the chaos of everything else around us. News, media, politics, etc. All seem to be screaming about the sky falling. People greet each other and instantly talk about something they disagreed with on the internet. Is this how it’s going to be from now on?
Maturity is how I summarize the end of one year transitioning into the next. I spent time helping friends and family with their troubles, growth or just simple questions. It was good for me as well. And I want to talk to friends and strangers about important topics, but I don’t want to get lost in it. At some point you must take a breath and step back. Agreeing to disagree isn’t the end of the world. And not every person who disagrees with you is evil. All sides have opinions and sometimes you just need to know when to not stress the subject. How much do you value a person or friend over being right?
Last year seemed to fly by, but not in the standard ‘you’re just getting older’ kind of way. Instead, I did a ton of things and had a shitload of fun, but I didn’t climb enough. Right after we adventured back to being a little off the grid in Montana, but we didn’t do any climbing.
Once we returned to daily life things seemed to just keep ramping up all the way through the end of the year and there wasn’t enough time to climb. We had more adventures and travels, parties and hangouts, but months appeared to blink past without enough climbing opportunities. I think that just goes to show we were having a good time, even though we weren’t climbing enough. Yah, a chunk was work, but work we were proud of in some shape or form…almost as proud as we would be of climbing. Looking back at 2018 I’m more bugged and saddened by the chaos of everything else around us. News, media, politics, etc. All seem to be screaming about the sky falling. Except my wife, who is just screaming about “falling” because that’s what she’s doing most nights at the gym. People greet each other and instantly talk about something they disagreed with on the internet. Is this how it’s going to be from now on? Maybe I should just climb more.
Maturity is how I summarize the end of one year transitioning into the next. I spent time helping friends and family with their troubles, growth or just simple questions, but not enough time climbing with my wife. It was good for me as well, but not as good as it would be if I was climbing with my wife. And I want to talk to friends and strangers about important topics, but I don’t want to get lost in it, because I don’t have time – I have to go belay my wife. At some point you must take a breath and step back. Agreeing to disagree isn’t the end of the world. And not every person who disagrees with you is evil. They’re just annoying and you don’t want to climb with them. All sides have opinions and sometimes you just need to know when to not stress the subject, and go climbing with your wife instead. How much do you value a person or friend over being right with your wife while she is climbing? It is so fun. Tremendous fun.
